The Roman Catholic Chapel of St. Maria is located in the Upper Swabian hamlet of Knaus in the community of Erkheim in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . The chapel is a listed building.

Building description

The easted chapel was donated in 1670. It has a floor plan of around seven by four meters and is 680 meters above sea level. It consists of a flat-roofed room that is closed in a semicircle. There are three transverse oval windows in the chapel, two on the south side and one on the north side. The arched entrance is on the north side of the chapel. The chapel is covered with a tent roof and has a four-sided roof turret .

Furnishing

The altarpiece , painted on wood , was created around 1670. It shows the Madonna with Saints Francis and Anthony. The altar is flanked by free columns. The softwood stalls were created in the 18th century. The votive picture and the crucifix in the chapel also date from the 18th century.
