St. Mary of Peace (Düsseldorf)
St. Maria vom Frieden is a Catholic church in the Gerresheim district of Düsseldorf .
history
The previous building was built between 1947 and 1950 by Aloys Odenthal and Philipp Wilhelm Stang . St. Mary of Peace was consecrated as a rectorate church in 1950. In 1954 it became an independent rectorate parish, and in 1963 it became a canonical parish. The church burned down completely in 1971.
Because of a planned larger settlement complex, an architectural competition for a new building was announced in 1964. In 1967 there was an architect contract. However, the plans were scaled down several times, as a smaller-storey development in the area was now planned. The new building by the architectural office Nikolaus Rosiny took place between 1973 and 1975. The present church was consecrated on June 8, 1975.
architecture
The parish hall and church are housed in a common building complex. The floor plan is rectangular, the building follows a strict, cubic geometry. The basic structure is plastered white, above it rises a cuboid clad with green patinated copper , which is interrupted by a line of clapboard windows .
The tower of the demolished St. Konrad Church in Düsseldorf-Flingern has served as the tower since 2006 .
organ
The organ was built in 1992 by the organ builder Kreienbrink (Georgsmarienhütte). The slider chests -instrument has 18 stops on two manuals and pedal . The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
