St. Marien in Schlettau

St. Marien is a listed Protestant church in the Schlettau district of the village of Löbejün in the municipality of Wettin-Löbejün in Saxony-Anhalt . In the local register of monuments it is listed as a monument under registration number 094 55256 .

The patroness of the sacred building is Maria . The current church is a new building from 1895, which replaced a church from the 13th century. Some religious elements, such as the baptismal font and an image of stone with a bearded man with sword, inside the church are from the previous building, making them older than the church itself. The building was in the style of Romanesque Revival of dry stone built.

War memorial

The war memorial for the fallen of the First World War is located on the site of the church . It is a grave , but instead of the tombstone, a stele was placed on a multi-tiered base at one end . The stele is adorned with a relief of a soldier who tilted his head down and placed his rifle on the ground. The inscription on the front on the base reads Our heroes, who died so that we could live gratefully honors the community of Schlettau and on the back your victory was a crunchy renunciation, and your storming was a hard, proud duty! . Furthermore, the stele is decorated with a steel helmet, oak leaves and an iron cross . The names of the fallen soldiers are written under the Iron Cross.
