St. Marien village church

The listed Evangelical-Lutheran village church of St. Marien is located in the Roth district of the small town of Römhild in the Hildburghausen district in Thuringia .

The oldest parts of the church chancel and sacristy were already before 1250 in Romanesque built style.

The pulpit with numerous figures , which was designed by the sculptor Hermes Just from Streufdorf , is striking .

The baptismal angel standing on the pulpit was created in 1777 by the court sculptor Heinrich Polycarp Merkel zu Hildburghausen , who also repainted the pulpit. The angel is provided with a joint on the right arm so that he can lower the baptismal bowl into its device. In 1999 the pulpit was restored.

The organ was built in 1864 by Michael Schmidt from Schmiedefeld using wooden pipes from the previous baroque organ.
