The Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Marien in the Simmershausen district of the small town of Römhild in the Hildburghausen district ( Thuringia ) dates back to 1514. The heritage-protected choir tower church stands on an elevation that characterizes the town.

history

An inscription with the year 1514 indicates a chapel that has risen in the lower part of the tower. The late Gothic cross vault in the chancel was probably built on the sacristy according to the year 1697 as part of a renovation and new building. In 1859 the old, crooked church tower was dismantled and replaced by a 12 meter high new building. In 1881/82 a new nave was built in the neo-Gothic style. Three arched windows with walls on the long sides and an entrance portal on the gable side structure the outer walls of the nave , which is separated from the church tower by a Gothic triumphal arch , decorated with an inlaid round rod. The interior received a gallery and is spanned by a flat ceiling.

In 1959 a community room was built under the organ loft. An extensive interior restoration took place from 1974 to 1982 and was completed with a rededication.

Furnishing

The pulpit, carved from sandstone , bears the year 1601 and is decorated with reliefs of the four evangelists on the side panels. Their picturing with green oil paint done well, such as the painted wooden lining of the sanctuary , in 1882. The organ was from (behind a prospectus of Römhilder organ builder Johann Heinrich Schmidt from 1824) forging fields Theodor Kühn 1881 - using some pipes of the previous organ Caspar Schippel from 1711 - built. It has 14 stops on two manuals and a pedal .

The church tower has a slated pointed spire, consisting of two pyramids placed one on top of the other, and is 31 meters high. In it hang two bells that were cast in 1920 and 1950.
