The Evangelical Lutheran parish church of St. Martin is located in the Upper Palatinate market of Kaltenbrunn , today a district of Weiherhammer . Together with the parishes of Kaltenbrunn - Freihung - Thansüß - Vilseck, it forms a corporation under public law and belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran deanery of Weiden in the Upper Palatinate .

history

The history of the Protestant community in Kaltenbrunn begins in 1524 shortly after the beginning of the Reformation with the first Protestant preacher Erhard Weigel . After the beginning of the Counter Reformation , Catholic clergymen were reinstated here from 1627. In 1648, due to the resolutions of the Peace of Westphalia, the state of before 1627 was restored until the “Heidelberg Settlement” on May 28, 1663 finally introduced the Simultaneum in Kaltenbrunn. From this point onwards, the Catholic and Protestant denominations used the St. Martin's Church, newly built in the middle of the 18th century, with the usual friction.

The contract to dissolve the Simultaneum was signed on October 16, 1932 and the Protestant parish received the original church of Kaltenbrunn for sole use in exchange for a fee. After the Catholic parish moved out, the church was renovated and officially inaugurated on September 2, 1934 by senior church councilor Prieser .

Construction

The church is a hall church with a hipped roof and a retracted, five-sided closed choir . The church has a flank tower that ends with an onion dome and a lantern . The year 1756 on the church indicates the new building in the 18th century. The church was renovated in 1864 and repaired again in 1891 and 1934. In 1981 the church tower was refurbished and the dome was rebuilt.

Interior

A special feature are the two cabinet panes in the south choir window, which probably come from the old church from 1520. One shows St. Ulrich as the first patron saint of the church, the other Mary with the baby Jesus .

organ

The first organ was made by the master organ builder Funtsch from Amberg in 1759; this organ had 10 stops. In 1905 it was renewed using the old case.

Bells

The small bell comes from the original church built in 1344. The large one dates from the 15th century. Because of their historical value, they were spared weight loss during the First World War . A medium-sized bell, the so-called death bell , was cast in 1765 by the bell caster Strasser; she was drafted for war purposes during the First World War.
