The church in Martinsried

history

A first chapel , “St. Martin in Riedt ”, mentioned in 1180. In 1668 one hears about a very dilapidated building whose furnishings left a lot to be desired. Through the use of his private fortune, Vicar Jakob Lenz was able to demolish the church between 1697 and 1699 and have a new one built. The Dietramszell monastery paid a very small contribution . Although Jakob Lenz died during the construction work, it was continued and, after some difficulties, concluded with the consecration in 1708 . It is now built in the traditional country style and has three altars.

inner space

In 1775 St. Martin was elevated to a parish church. In August 1843, the tower and the church were closed because they were in disrepair. The renovation also included an expansion, since Planegg and Steinkirchen belonged to the parish area from 1824 on. On June 21, 1846 the renovated church with a new tower was consecrated again. The church was then provided with a vestibule in 1856. In addition to repeated renovations, the basic structure of the church remained the same.

Today St. Martin is a branch of the parish of St. Elisabeth . It has the patronage of Martin of Tours .
