The town church St. Martini is in the town of Greußen in the Kyffhäuserkreis in Thuringia .

history

According to tradition, the Christians of Greussens who were converted by Boniface are said to have built a wooden chapel on the pagan Dreilindenplatz in 732 . A chapel-like church built around the year 900 had to give way to the Liebfrauenkirche in 1250, which was again demolished until 1420 the foundation stone of the St. Martini Church, consecrated on November 10, 1483, was laid.

In 1643 soldiers ravaged and plundered the church.

On July 2, 1687, the church fell victim to a city fire . In 1688 the foundation stone was laid for the new building and in 1690 the tower was completed . When the choir and nave were provided with external staircases, the church was consecrated again in 1694. This was followed by the construction of the pulpit and the installation of the organ by a company from Halberstadt; The altar, the galleries and the interior decoration followed.

In 1970 the choir, organ and roof were renovated. In 1978 the altar window was renewed and sponge control was carried out . The roof of the ship was re-covered in 1992.

In 1994 the 300th anniversary was celebrated.

building

The retracted rather low choir is still late Gothic.

Today's nave, built in the Baroque period , nevertheless has classicist features. The exterior is kept simple and has a gable roof with a slight slope. Inside, only the central nave of the gallery has a - relatively flat - groined vault. The aisles have flat ceilings and are slightly higher than the central nave.
