The listed Roman Catholic branch church of St. Michael is located in Albersrieth in the Upper Palatinate , a district of Waldthurn (Albersrieth 17). The church is dedicated to the Archangel Michael , whose patronage is celebrated annually on September 29th.

history

The founding of this chapel is related to the new school building in Albertsrieth. In 1924, lessons began in the new school building for the children of Albertsrieth, Lindnermühle, Vizmühle, Remmelberg and Schammesrieth. On October 11, 1924, the Regensburg bishop's office granted permission to celebrate mass in the school's teaching room. The cramped conditions meant that considerations were made for a new chapel.

On January 16, 1933, the Albersrieth Kapellenbauverein was founded, a statute was issued and the economist Johann Weig von Albersrieth was elected chairman. He and Pastor Georg Haller were responsible for building the chapel for the years to come. On March 2, 1934, the Kapellenbauverein was entered in the register of associations at the Vohenstrauß District Court. After the widow Maria Bodensteiner (Vizbauer) provided ten decimal building land opposite the school on February 11, 1935, the construction of the chapel began on April 3, 1935 with manual and tensioning services . The granite required for the chapel was exposed at Steinbühl and the stone breaking could begin. In June 1935 the building site was excavated and the timber was brought in. The draftsman was the Regensburg master builder Wirthensohn. On October 21, 1935, the building permit and the laying of the foundation stone were given. The construction work was carried out by the Gollwitzer company from Waldthurn, the carpentry work by Riedlbauer from Oberlind .

As early as 1936, a few days before the start of school, Pastor Georg Haller was able to give the church a temporary assignment , albeit with a wooden altar from the school building. In 1937 a marble altar was erected, in the same year the painter Wilhelm Vierling from Weiden installed the altarpiece with the Archangel Michael as a fresco on the wall behind the altar.

On June 24, 1938, the church was consecrated by Archbishop Michael Buchberger . The building of the tower was postponed due to the high payment burden and could only be completed in 1950. For the 50th anniversary, extensive renovation measures were carried out in 1988, which were financed by donations. Since the school in Albertsrieth has been closed since 1971, there was no school mass, instead an evening mass is read every three weeks on Friday.

Church building

The branch church is a hall church with a pitched roof and a segmental arch- shaped choir apse . The flank tower placed sideways is closed with an onion dome. The church is made of quarry stone blocks.
