The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Michael in Kürnach , a municipality in the Würzburg district , was built in 1723/24 and is consecrated to the Archangel Michael . It belongs to the Bavarian diocese of Würzburg .

history

In 1425 a parish church in Kürnach was first mentioned, which was consecrated after Blasius von Sebaste . From 1686 until the new church was built, the church was consecrated to St. Peter in chains . The hall of the parish church of St. Michael was built according to plans by Balthasar Neumann in 1723/24. A choir extension and a tower with a Welsche Dome followed in 1923. In 1984 the interior was renovated.

The St. Michaels Church belongs to the parish community St. Mauritius - St. Michael - St. Georg, Estenfeld in the Deanery of Würzburg on the right of the Main of the Roman Catholic diocese of Würzburg .

Until 1908 the parish belonged to the archdeaconate district of Kitzingen . Since 1908 the parish has belonged to the deanery of Würzburg right of the Main . From 1895 to 1983 she was the nurses' station of the Dillingen Franciscan Sisters with a children's institution and nursing ward. In 1956 a parish hall was built behind the church. This was renovated in 1988 and 1998.

Pastor

Joachim Bayer has been pastor for the parish of St Michael since 2007 and has also been responsible for the parish community since 2010. In addition, since 2005 he has been dean of the Deanery Würzburg right of the Main .

Church building

The quarry stone masonry of the church comes from the 18th and 19th centuries. Century.

Furnishing

The font from 1589 still comes from the previous church, which was consecrated from 1292 to 1723 to Blasius von Sebaste . It is a post-Gothic creation made of gray sandstone. In the church there is a crucifixion group from 1766 by the sculptor Johann Peter Wagner . This was only set up there in 1955 and consecrated by Julius Döpfner together with the high altar, as they were previously at the semolina mill on the Kürnach . A copy is on the bridge over the Kürnach in front of the Griesmühle. The ceiling painting by Oskar Martin-Amorbach from 1947 depicts the homage of heaven and earth before Christ the King. In 1949 the three bells were consecrated to Christ the King , Mary (mother of Jesus) and Joseph of Nazareth , which were added to the Barbara's bell. In 2001, a modern figure of Michael by the artist Karlheinz Oswald was installed in the middle niche on the west facade .

In and around the churchyard there are other listed objects: the churchyard wall, an Ölberghaus with a Christ torso and several wayside shrines, a stone crucifix and two wayside shrines depicting the Pietá and the crucifixion.

The organ was rebuilt in 1985 by Orgelbau Hoffmann & Schindler in Ostheim vd Rhön and is located in the nave on the left in front of the chancel.

Lady Chapel

The Marienkapelle is a Catholic path chapel on the outskirts of Kürnach . The chapel is dedicated to Mary (mother of Jesus) . It is a small hall with a gable roof and neo-Gothic fial ornamentation. The Wegkapelle was donated in 1882 by Maria Barbara Ländner "in honor of our dear lady". In 1991 the last owners (the Schrauth family) transferred the chapel to the Catholic Church. Kürnach Church. It was then restored by the former fruit growing association under Pastor Josef Kraft.
