Church of St. Michael in Kettershausen

The Catholic parish church of St. Michael is located in Kettershausen in the Unterallgäu district in Bavaria . The church is a listed building.

history

The late Gothic church tower dates from around 1500. The church choir, originally from the same period, was completely redesigned in the neo-Romanesque style by Hugo von Kern in the years 1855-1859.

Building description

The church is a flat-roofed hall building with a pilaster structure. There is a double gallery on the west side . The heavily drawn-in, three-sided closed choir adjoins the nave . There are oratorios with triple arcades on both sides of the choir . There is a stab cap barrel in the choir . This is located above wall templates flanked by quarter columns. The outer facade of the nave is structured by pilaster strips and arched friezes. A relief figure of Christ created by Johann Riedmiller in 1858 is located in the western vestibule in the tympanum .

The church has a neo-Romanesque interior that was created around 1858. It goes back to designs by Thomas Guggenberger. The high altar contains a crucifixion group from the years 1720/30. The assistant figures of the high altar come from the same time. On the right side altar there is a carved Virgin Mary from 1510/20. The Mother of God is an Ulm work from Gregor Erhart's environment .

The frescoes in the choir were created in 1858/59 by Thomas Guggenberger, in the nave in 1896 by Basilio Coletti. They show scenes from the Old and New Testament .
