St. Nicolai (Holdenstedt)
The Evangelical Lutheran St. Nicolai Church in Holdenstedt is one of the oldest churches in the region. The parish of St. Nicolai in Holdenstedt in the Uelzen parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover has around 1,800 parishioners in the villages of Holdenstedt, Holxen and Borne .
Location and surroundings
The St. Nicolai Church is located at Schloßstraße 8 in Holdenstedt. It is located on the southern edge of the village, right next to the castle.
At the parsonage, in an outbuilding, there is a small chapel (25 seats) that is always open. It can be recognized by a tile mosaic of Bishop Nikolaus , the namesake of the community.

The Thirty Years War did not spare the church, so that from 1652 to 1654 repair work had to be carried out, whereby the oak barrel vault was pulled in. 1690 were Georg Friedrich of the Wense and his wife Catharina von Alvensleben Ehrengard the nave of the preserved Gothic brick choir a wider Baroque grow nave, to a massive west building of the tower . Its Romanesque reference to the home church of the builder, which came from Hundisburg near Erxleben.
Furnishing
From the interior of the church, the altar from 1652 as well as the portraits of the church renovators and the castle builder Cristian Ludwig von der Wense can be admired. There is also an antependium with underlaid brocade embroidery on red silk from 1639, which shows scenes from the passion of Jesus. There is also a bronze baptismal font with depictions of Christ and evangelist symbols.
