Nicolai Church in Steckby

Sankt Nicolai is a 13th century stone church in the Steckby district of the city of Zerbst / Anhalt in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district . The church on the Elbe Cycle Path has also been a cycle path church since 2008 .

history

The stone church was built around 1200.

The interior of the church was completely renovated after 1991. The church tower was completely renovated at the beginning of the 21st century. The European Union is supporting the renovation through the “Leader +” community initiative.

Special devotions and a resting place for cyclists are part of the concept of the cyclist church.

layout

The field stone church is a complete system of nave , recessed square choir and smaller, semicircular apse . The stones are regularly layered up to the windows.

A half-timbered rider from the 18th century with a yellow brick , baroque hood and a lantern-shaped attachment sits on the west gable of the nave. The roof turret and the roof of the nave are in very poor condition. Some of the window openings can still be seen in their original outlines, as are the now walled-up portals on the north and south sides.

Furnishing

The simple baroque altarpiece bears the painting "Christ and the Sinner"; this is a gift from Duke Leopold III. Friedrich von Anhalt-Dessau . 1996 the Magdeburg artist Richard Wilhelm the stained glass windows of the church.

The interior of the church was completely renovated after 1991 and is in good condition. The organ, on the other hand, in its bad condition needs a fundamental repair, especially since it is one of the historically valuable instruments in this area.

organ

The organ of the church was made by the Zuberbier company in the 18th century . It is in urgent need of repair.

Peal

The only bell in the church was cast from bronze by the Ulrich ( Apolda ) company in 1876 .

The Protestant parish belongs to the parish of Zerbst in the Evangelical Church of Anhalt .
