The St. Nikolai Church in Töttelstädt is a Protestant branch church in the city of Erfurt . It belongs to the Protestant church district Gotha .

history

A previous Gothic building dates from 1492. The retracted choir tower and some arched curtain windows on the south side come from him.

On October 26, 1725, the church was largely rebuilt. It was inaugurated in the presence of Duke Friedrich II .

In 1818 Wilhelm Hey , who later became known as a poet, became pastor of Töttelstedt. During his time the church fell victim to a major fire on June 15, 1824. It was immediately rebuilt in the classical style and received a five-axle nave with a mansard roof . The facades were structured by plaster strips . On the long sides there are centrally arranged drilled portals , one with an inscription. The uniformly simple interior was given a flat cleaning barrel , a surrounding double gallery and a pulpit altar. The tower was built by the master carpenter Geiling from Bienstädt . The new church was consecrated on December 20, 1825. The construction costs amounted to 4,736 thalers. In 1827 Hey left Töttelstedt and became court preacher in Gotha .

On July 12, 1984, the tall and pointed steeple was lifted off and thrown away by a devastating storm. The bus stop was also smashed. The 130-year-old linden and chestnut trees that lined the churchyard were also destroyed. The spire was rebuilt in 1986 in a lower and simplified form. 20 chestnut trees have been replanted in the churchyard.

From 1998 to 2000 the church and organ were restored and re-inaugurated on June 10, 2001 in a festive service. The parish regularly invites you to church services and organ concerts every summer.

Bells

The church received three bells from Apolda (Ulrich) in 1825 . The large bell had a diameter of 123 cm, the middle one of 97 cm. Both bells together weighed 1867 kg. All three bells cost 828 thalers back then.

In 1917 the large and middle bells were removed from the church tower and used for war purposes. Since then the Töttelstädter Church has only had a small bell.
