St. Nicholas (Büren)
The Catholic parish church of St. Nikolaus is located in Büren , a town in the Paderborn district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). It is a three-aisled Romanesque cross basilica. The church building is the oldest building in the city center of Büren. The church and parish are part of the Büren-Süd pastoral network of the Büren Delbrück dean's office in the Archdiocese of Paderborn .
history
The church was first mentioned in a document in 1220. It was built at the end of the 12th century as a market church by the Detmar and Berthold von Büren brothers . After a fire in the 17th century, the church was extensively renovated. In 1682 the upper floor of the west tower was renewed. In 1824 rosettes were attached to the south wall and the windows with the crucifixion group were installed in the choir. In 1828 the addition of the sacristy and in 1858 the spire was completed. Further small structural changes followed after 1900. From 1966 to 1968 the church was completely renovated.
Furnishing
The inventory of St. Nicholas includes a sacrament house with a pinnacle structure from the 16th century, as well as a double Madonna, which is located in the nave and a pulpit carved from wood from around 1600.
The triumphal cross from 1550 hangs on the north wall of the transept. The church also houses a reliquary of St. Liborius, a statue of St. Nicholas, which has stood in front of the church since 2008, and a reliquary cross from the 14th century.
organ
The baroque Patroclus Möller organ from 1744, which was first made for the Böddeken monastery , is one of the most important in Westphalia. The instrument came to Büren in 1804. In the course of time the organ was rebuilt several times. In 1923 the instrument was equipped with pneumatic cone chests and the movement in the positive back housing was removed. 1953–1957 the organ was restored by the organ builder Franz Breil (Dorsten). a. the cone chests were removed and replaced by mechanical grinding chests. In addition, the breastwork was added as a third manual, as was already planned by Patroclus Möller. 1992–1993 the organ was restored and re-voiced. Today the instrument has 43 registers on three manuals and a pedal .

Bells
The four-part bronze bell is tuned to the tone sequence c'-d'-e'-g '. Bells I, II and IV were cast by Petit & Edelbrock in 1949.
