St. Pankratius (Alterstedt)
The Protestant village church of St. Pankratius is in the Alterstedt district of the Schönstedt community in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia .
history
With the dates 1482 and 1503, the bells testify to the early church initiatives in Alterstedt. The church , consecrated under the name Pankratius , probably dates from the late Romanesque period. The transverse rectangular west tower is a representative of this time. In the 17th century, extensive changes were made to the church, especially to the nave .
Thank God nothing essential has been changed in the interior, so that a closed set of furnishings from the 17th century is presented to the guests and the faithful. There are still present: the three-sided circumferential doubles , in whose parapet fields the busts of the apostles and Christ are shown. The wooden ceiling is decorated with ornaments. In the choir head , Christ is represented as a Salvator flanked by evangelists . These paintings were restored in 1933. The church interior is to be perceived as simple and Protestant .
The organ was built and installed in 1892 by Friedrich Petersilie from Bad Langensalza .
