Parish Church of St. Peter

The Catholic parish church of St. Peter is a listed church building in Boisheim , a district of Viersen , in the district of Viersen ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

History and architecture

A capella in Buyschem is mentioned in a list of the donations to the Xanten archdeacon from the 13th century (written before 1290). A priest by the name of John was named in 1320. The abbot of St. Pantaleon in Cologne was the parish collator, and monks from St. Pantaleon were appointed pastors. A Romanesque hall church with the width of the Gothic central nave is proven to be the previous building.

The Gothic small three-nave pseudo - basilica with a one-bay choir with a 5/8 end was built in 1487 from brick with tuff . The west tower of the church in front of it was replaced in 1899 by a west transept with a steeply rising tower in the neo-Gothic style according to plans by C. Rüdell and R. Odenthal . In the interior, ribbed vaults rest on round pillars. The shape and material of the western extension is adapted to the old building. The building was badly damaged by bombs and shelling in 1945. The damage was repaired by 1954. The color version was renewed in 1981.

Furnishing

  • The color painting cycle was painted by H. Lohbeck from 1955 to 1957.
  • The damaged sacrament house made of trachyte dates from around 1500, it has been painted in more recent times.
  • The font from the 13th century, made of Namur bluestone , was put together from remains.
  • The choir stalls , the rear walls with folded panels and the head medallions were made in the middle of the 16th century.
  • The version of the crucifix from around 1480 has been lost.
  • The enthroned Peter from the beginning of the 16th century was recast in the 19th century.
