The Expositurkirche St. Peter and Paul in Fuhrn is a Roman Catholic church in the Schwandorf district . It belongs to the parish of Kemnath near Fuhrn in the deanery Neunburg-Oberviechtach in the diocese of Regensburg .

Building history

The church of St. Peter and Paul in Fuhrn was first mentioned in 1308. It is essentially Romansh . In August 1961, during plastering work on its east side, a gable enclosed by today's church was exposed, which, with its gable cross and oval window, indicates a construction period around 950 to 1000. The current church complex dates from the 13th or 14th century.

Remains of a Romanesque church from 950 form the core of the Gothic complex from the 13th century. In the 18th century the church was expanded to the west.

Interior

The interior of the church was described in 1508 as being decorated with panels, meaning winged altars and wall paintings. These Gothic furnishings were destroyed during the iconoclasm . The church has three baroque altars, the pulpit and organ from the 18th century are designed in the Rococo style. The church patrons Peter and Paul are depicted in the high altar picture. In front of it stands a figure of Christ on the scourge column , which is replaced by a representation of the baby Jesus during Advent and Christmas . The side altars contain baroque reliquaries . A statue of the Virgin Mary adorns the left side altar. Wood-carved figures of the four evangelists are on the basket of the pulpit , Jesus as the good shepherd as a half-relief behind the preacher's place. The sound cover of the pulpit is noticeably raised. A grave slab from 1484 is on the inside of the door in the pavement. The church's two bells date from 1418 and 1497.

graveyard

In the cemetery there is a medieval stone cross that originally stood at the junction of the road to Hofenstetten.
