Steve Aizlewood

Steven J. "Steve" Aizlewood (born October 9, 1952 in Newport , † August 6, 2013 ibid) was a Welsh football player . The defender was the older brother of the Welsh international Mark Aizlewood and ran primarily in the third and fourth division .

Athletic career

Welsh student international Aizlewood began his career in his hometown with AFC Newport County . With the Welsh club, he joined the English fourth division from 1969, during which time he ran 197 games for the club, scoring 18 goals. In the spring of 1976 he left Wales and moved within English football to the third division club Swindon Town , where he made 112 league appearances as a regular in the following three and a half years and also made double digits on the scorers' list with a total of ten goals. In the summer of 1979 he moved to the fourth division club Portsmouth, with which he rose to the third division in 1983. In the year of success, however, they parted ways. Aizlewood succeeded in the sequence in the Southern Football League in non-league football , where he ended his career with Waterlooville .

After a brief illness, Aizlewood died in August 2013 at the age of 60 in the Royal Gwent Hospital in his hometown of Newport.
