St. Peter and Paul

The Protestant Church of St. Peter and Paul is located in the Worbis district of the city of Leinefelde-Worbis in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia .

history

The Counter-Reformation initiated in Eichsfeld in Electoral Mainz around 1574 meant that there was only Catholic worship in Worbis until 1802/1803 . With the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1802 Prussia was also awarded the Eichsfeld. This became part of the Kingdom of Westphalia from 1807 to 1813 and came back to Prussia after its dissolution. The few Protestant Christians were hereby granted freedom of belief. In 1825 they used a specially furnished room in the dilapidated St. Petri Monastery in Worbis for the service. Worbis became the seat of the district of Worbis , so that the community grew due to the settlement of Prussian officials and reported the need for an appropriate place of worship. At the rose market in Worbis there was an empty domain building, the fruit pouring floor , and an empty sheepfold . These buildings were given to the Protestants for use. Thanks to the commitment of the assistant preacher Meinshausen, the king made the property a gift to the evangelical community. On the 2nd Advent, December 5, 1847, the new church was inaugurated.

The parish was constituted on July 25, 1857 as an independent Protestant Worbis parish of Kirchworbis , Breitenbach , Gernrode , Leinefelde and Beuren .

Furnishing

The Protestant church was given a massive gable in 1858 and a roof turret with two bells on the street side . The sexton lived in the neighboring house until 1990 . There was also space in the building for the Protestant youth.

The facility was renovated from 2004 to 2005. A confirmation home was set up. In the course of the renovation, the district administrator of the Eichsfeld district, Werner Henning, donated a font . The rooms were also adapted to the changed conditions.
