The Evangelical Church of St. Petri is in the town of Bad Frankenhausen in the Kyffhäuserkreis in Thuringia .

history

In 1890 the St. Petri Church with the village of Altstadt, also known as the Old Town Church, was incorporated into the town of Bad Frankenhausen.

architecture

The original stone from the semicircular apse , the choir square , a single-nave nave and tower house are probably remnants of a larger previous church from the 10th century. The window openings date back to the 13th century. The reconstruction, which can still be seen today, probably took place after the Thirty Years' War . Towards the end of the 19th century the church was dilapidated and restored, with the apse painting from the 13th century being renewed and masonry and carpentry work being carried out. New church stalls came into the hall, the pulpit was installed and a stained glass window was inserted, which has now been lost.

The church was reopened on April 20, 1890. Further conversions took place from 1933 to 1938 and 1954.

Up until the third inauguration ceremony on September 10, 1960, roof work , half-timbered repairs and the installation of an electrical system were carried out. Gas heating was also installed. After that this church fell into oblivion again.

From 1993 onwards, funds were gradually granted by the monument preservation department in order to preserve the church, so that on May 15, 2002 the ceremonial re-dedication took place.

Bells

The bells once hung in the belfry outside the church. A suspension for three bells was installed in the roof structure in 1783 . Two bells date from the 14th century, the third was cast in 1454. All three bells fell victim to the First World War . The current bell was raised on June 8, 1955. It comes from the former Bendeleben bells .
