St. Petrus is a Catholic parish church in Upsprunge , a district in Salzkotten in East Westphalia in the Paderborn district . Church and parish belong to the Salzkotten Pastoral Association in the Büren-Delbrück Dean's Office of the Archdiocese of Paderborn .

history

Upsprunge was first mentioned in 1216. Upsprunge belonged to the parish in the Salzkotten settlement of Vielsen until 1256 . After that, Upsprunge belonged to the parish of St. Johannes Baptist in Salzkotten . In 1425 a chapel was built in Upsprunge, which was consecrated by the auxiliary bishop Johannes von Korbach .

Today's St. Petrus Church was built in 1895/96 according to plans by the Altrogge construction company. On May 18, 1896, Bishop Hubert Theophil Simar was able to consecrate the high altar of Ferdinand Mündelein from Paderborn. In 1900 an organ (size II / 12) from FW Stegerhoff, Paderborn was installed.

On April 18, 1907, the first vicar was introduced in Upsprunge and moved into the rectory, which was built in 1906/07. In 1920 the vicarie was raised to an independent parish and the previous vicar was appointed pastor.

In 1977 the church was extensively renovated and a new celebration altar was brought into the church in accordance with the Second Vatican Council .

Pastor

In the parish of Upsprunge only three pastors performed their duties:

  • 1907–1920 Franz Drees (vicar)
  • 1920–1940 Franz Drees (pastor)
  • 1940–1965 Johannes Reker
  • 1965–1971 Franz Meyer

After that, the congregation was not assigned its own pastor. Pastor Heinrich Redemann was appointed parish administrator until 1986, as was Hans-Josef Rüsing. They were supported by vicars and subsidiary groups . Since 1984 parish officers have been responsible for pastoral tasks outside of church services.
