The parish church of St. Philip and St. James is located in Recker district Steinbeck .

history

The church was built in 1890, initially without a steeple, as a branch church of the St. Dionysius parish of Recke. The architect Wilhelm Rincklake planned the church in such a way that the west yoke and the tower could be added later.

On October 21, 1905, the church was raised to an independent parish.

Relief: "Jesus feeds the hungry" by Joseph Krautwald above the tower portal

In 1937 the tower of the church was built. A relief created in the 1960s by Joseph Krautwald in the tympanum above the tower portal shows the multiplication of bread . The tower with its gothic pointed arched windows and window rosettes is provided with a baroque curved tower dome.

The mechanical church tower clock from 1938 was replaced by an electronic clock in June 1991. A fire had damaged the watch shortly before.

After the parish was reunited with the Recker Dionysius parish on September 25, 2016 by Auxiliary Bishop Christoph Hegge , the church remains a branch church of the parish.
