St. Remigius is the Roman Catholic parish church of the Oberweis community in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate .

history

A church in Oberweis was mentioned for the first time in 1330. The tithe was initially owned by the Counts of Manderscheid and, from the middle of the 17th century until secularization, the Counts of Kayll. These also had the right of patronage .

In the years 1897 and 1898, a four-bay neo - Romanesque hall church with a bell tower and choir closed on three sides was built in place of the old church from the 13th and 14th centuries . The Düsseldorf architect Josef Kleesattel provided the plans . The late Romanesque churches of the Rhineland served him as a model . In 1990 and 1991 the interior of the church was renovated.

Furnishing

In the church, all the equipment from the time it was built has been preserved. Of these, the neo-Romanesque high altar with the associated side altars, the confessional and the Way of the Cross are particularly noteworthy . There is also a baptismal font and a relief from the 17th century in the interior. Both were taken over from the old church.
