Bastheim, St. Sebastian

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Sebastian is a church in the Bavarian community of Bastheim in the Lower Franconian district of Rhön-Grabfeld . It is one of the architectural monuments in Bastheim and is registered under the number D-6-73-116-8 in the Bavarian Monument List . Bastheim is the center of the Besengau parish community .

The church is dedicated to Saint Sebastian .

history

Before the construction of today's St. Sebastian Church, there was a previous building in today's parish garden, the remains of which may be under the floor of today's church. After its construction in 1868, the St. Sebastian Church was consecrated on August 12, 1869. The interior of the church was renovated in 1997/98.

Description and equipment

The church is a neo-Romanesque building with a steeple in the central axis of the nave and an eastern three-eighth choir . The outer walls end in a round arch frieze . Inside the church has round arches . The sculptor Josef Gerngras from Bastheim created the statues of St. Konrad von Parzham and the Christ the King as well as a wooden cross on the right outer wall. The martyrdom of St. Sebastian is depicted on the three central windows in the choir. The middle window with the angel of the Annunciation is the last of the three original windows that still showed the birth and death of Jesus. The church has a four-part major bell with the notes g´, h´, c´´ and d´´.
