St. Sebastian

The Catholic Chapel of St. Sebastian in Heister , a district of the town of Unkel in the Neuwied district ( Rhineland-Palatinate ), was built in 1753. The chapel on Sebastianstraße is a protected cultural monument .

history

From the second half of the 12th century, the Deutz Abbey owned property in Heister, which was retained until secularization . The place has belonged to the parish of Erpel since ancient times .

architecture

The hall building is 10.50 m long and 6 m wide, it is closed with a three-sided choir . The left eaves side has no windows and the two windows on the right long side were decorated with stained glass in 1949 . In 1948 a sacristy was added. There is an oval window above the arched portal . Inside the chapel is covered by a wooden barrel .

The sloping roof turret with a pointed helmet is crowned by a roof knob and a cross. Since 1970 there has been a second bell in the hexagonal bell room of the roof ridge.

Furnishing

In 2008 the figure of the Madonna returned to the chapel from the Neuwieder Roentgen Museum. The Rhenish sculpture is dated to the end of the 13th or beginning of the 14th century.
