St. Thomas More

The St. Thomas More Church was a Catholic church building in the Langendreer district of Bochum . It was built from 1977 to 1978 based on designs by the Gelsenkirchen architects Paul and Gerd Günther. A building complex without a tower combined the church hall, sacristy and parish hall . The parts enclosed an atrium . The stained glass windows came from Johannes Beeck from Nettetal . In front of the church was a bell tower made of steel beams.

Auxiliary Bishop Wolfgang Große consecrated the church on June 18, 1978. It was named after Thomas More , who was executed at the age of 58. Today he is also considered the patron saint of politicians.

Bishop Felix Genn shared in the bishop's word from 14./15. January 2006 with:

The merger of the parishes St. Thomas-More and St. Bonifatius was more than 10 years ago. Since then, this church has been used as a branch church of the Bonifatius parish, which was also desirable given its location in the Wilhelmshöhe residential area. In future this will unfortunately no longer be possible for the reasons mentioned - personnel and finances - but also because of the relatively small number of church service participants. "

The St. Thomas More Church was profaned and closed on March 12, 2006 by Auxiliary Bishop Franz Grave . After the last mass, the candles were extinguished and the candlesticks turned down. It was demolished in the summer of 2007.
