The list of profaned churches in the diocese of Essen shows churches and chapels in the diocese of Essen that have been profaned , partially profaned, reused or rededicated. They were or are being sold, rebuilt or demolished.

From January 1, 2010, the church for Ruhr.2010 became an “art church”, for which purpose it was “decommissioned” by the bishop for a limited period of one year. In addition to ongoing art campaigns, the church will continue to be used for religious services (over 30s church).
