The list of profaned churches in the diocese of Essen shows churches and chapels in the diocese of Essen that have been profaned , partially profaned, reused or rededicated. They were or are being sold, rebuilt or demolished.

From January 1, 2010, the church for Ruhr.2010 became an “art church”, for which purpose it was “decommissioned” by the bishop for a limited period of one year. In addition to ongoing art campaigns, the church will continue to be used for religious services (over 30s church).

St. Martin		2010	repurposed	Duisburg- Duissern -Werthacker	The Martinskapelle, after it was first used by a free church, was sold to the Werthacker settlement community.

St. Peter	1970	2011	repurposed	Duisburg- Hochfeld	Today St. Peter is the charitable center of the parish of Liebfrauen. A chapel was preserved.
St. Mary of the Assumption	1958		closed	Duisburg- Huettenheim	After various ideas and interim uses, an investor for a senior citizen facility including the church building has been sought since 2017.
St. Clement	1960/61	2005	laid down	Duisburg- Kasslerfeld	St. Clemens was laid down in June 2009 and a retirement home was built on the site.

St. Maria Immaculata	1948	2014	laid down	Essen- Borbeck 51 ° 28 ′ 3.5 ″  N , 6 ° 56 ′ 48 ″  E	The church was consecrated again in 1948 after war damage and was laid down in 2014. A retirement home has been built on the property.
