Old publishing house in Lüdenscheid

The Lüdenscheider Nachrichten (LN) is a regional daily newspaper in Lüdenscheid and the surrounding area in the southern Märkischer Kreis . It is the only local daily newspaper in Lüdenscheid after the Westfälische Rundschau had completely withdrawn from the Lüdenscheid region on January 1, 2014. The LN appear daily except on Sundays and sometimes not on public holidays . The LN celebrated its 150th anniversary in the year of 2004. She belongs to the media group of the publisher Dirk Ippen .

The Lüdenscheider Nachrichten is published by the Märkischer Zeitungsverlag . This also includes, with its own local sections , the Meinerzhagener Zeitung (MZ), the Altenaer Kreisblatt (AK), the Allgemeine Anzeiger (AA, Halver) and the Süderländer Volksfreund (SV, Werdohl). The total circulation of these newspapers printed in Meinerzhagen is 29,274 copies. The single edition of the Lüdenscheider Nachrichten has not been shown since 2015.

The LN cooperate editorially and technically with the Süderländer Tageblatt (ST, Plettenberg), which appeared for a long time in an independent publisher, but at the beginning of 2017 also belongs to the Märkischer Zeitungsverlag.

At the beginning of the 1990s, new newspaper titles were also founded in the northern part of the Märkischer Kreis: Die Neue Iserlohner Presse , the Neue Hemeraner Presse and the Neue Letmather Presse . After a short time, however, these stocks disappeared from the market.

The Lüdenscheider Nachrichten is a header of the Westfälischer Anzeiger published in Hamm , from which the entire national section is taken over. The Westfälische Anzeiger also supplies the daily newspaper Der Patriot in Lippstadt , which appears in its own publishing house, with its cover section , partly the Hellweger Anzeiger in Unna and the partner publisher in Soest, where the Soester Anzeiger is published.

The LN belong to the newspaper company owned by Dirk Ippen , who u. a. the Münchner Merkur , the tabloid tz (Munich), the circle newspaper Syke, the Altmark-Zeitung , the Fehmarn Tageblatt , the Offenbach-Post (from 1 January 2005 to 100%), and since mid-2005, the Hessian / Niedersächsische Allgemeine in Kassel belong.

The editor-in-chief of Lüdenscheider Nachrichten is Martin Krigar.

Edition

The sold circulation of Lüdenscheider Nachrichten was 14,375 copies in 2014, when it was last reported to the IVW . This corresponds to a decrease of 5188 copies or 27 percent compared to 1998. After that, the newspaper stopped reporting the circulation figures to the IVW.

Development of the number of copies sold

restructuring

As with many other daily newspapers, restructuring measures at Lüdenscheider Nachrichten have also cost jobs in recent years. In 2004, online editing and accounting were taken over by the main editorial team of the Westphalian Gazette in Hamm and the jobs on site in Lüdenscheid were deleted.

In the summer of 2006, the LN dismissed the photo editors. Since then, this work has been taken over by the respective department editors or freelancers.

In addition, when new employees are hired, the employees of the Märkischer Zeitungsverlag are no longer paid on tariff terms. The companies concerned have left the publishers' association and are therefore no longer bound by the collective agreement. A large part of the reporting is also done by freelancers.

In March 2010 it was announced that the Mendener Zeitung , which is cooperating with the LN , will be discontinued on March 31, 2010 after 150 years. It was founded in 1860 as the Westphalian Telegraph . The Mendener Zeitung was published by Jahn-Verlag and had recently increased its circulation to 6,027 copies. In their place, in April 2010 the Hellweger Anzeiger published in Unna expanded its reporting and distribution in the Hönnestadt.

New building of the headquarters

The Märkische Zeitungsverlag (MZV) announced on May 13, 2011 that its old headquarters at Schillerstraße 20 in downtown Lüdenscheid will be demolished and replaced by a new 3-story building with an underground car park. The usable area of the new building is 1,505 square meters. In addition, there is also another 3-story new building with 1585 square meters. Part of the space in the two new buildings is to be rented out. The demolition of the old building began on January 2, 2012. On December 3, 2012, it was announced that both buildings should be in place at the end of the fourth quarter of 2013.

After the completion of the new building at the end of February 2014, the editorial staff of Lüdenscheider Nachrichten moved to their new building on Schillerstrasse.

As part of the new building of the Märkischer Zeitungsverlag (MZV), the connection from the Kulturhausgarten towards the old town is to be upgraded. The Märkische Zeitungsverlag would like to extensively renew the connection to the Kurt-Weill-Weg, the Turmstrasse and the Kulturhausgarten as part of the new media house on Schillerstraße. A new step system is to be built out of the park, which will enable passage through the two new buildings in the direction of Turmstrasse as well as in the direction of the Kulturhaus. The developer, i.e. the Märkische Zeitungsverlag, wants to bear the costs for this.
