Franz Grave

Franz Grave (born November 25, 1932 in Essen ) is auxiliary bishop emeritus in the diocese of Essen .

Life

Franz Grave received on 2 February 1959 in the Essen Cathedral , the sacrament of holy orders and was then chaplain in Duisburg -Beeck. In 1965 he became a religion teacher at the city's Gustav Stresemann secondary school in Duisburg. At the same time he worked as a subsidiary in the community of St. Maximilian in Duisburg-Ruhrort . On June 1, 1966, he was appointed Diocesan President of the German Kolping Family in the Diocese of Essen and was also President of the Kolping Family Essen-Zentral.

From November 16, 1970, Grave headed Department 4 in the Episcopal General Vicariate and was thus active in the pastoral office for the development of pastoral services - target group pastoral care. In 1973 Pope Paul VI awarded him . the title of chaplain to His Holiness . In 1978 Grave was appointed resident cathedral capitular . On March 31, 1988 Franz Grave was appointed titular bishop of Tingaria and auxiliary bishop in Essen by Pope John Paul II . His motto is Mundi salvator dominus (“Savior of the world is the Lord”). On June 21, 2001, Grave was awarded an honorary doctorate in the pastoral theology department of the Catholic University "Nuestra Señora Reina de la Paz" in Tegucigalpa , Honduras .

After Bishop Hubert Luthe resigned from office , Grave was elected diocesan administrator by the Essen cathedral chapter on May 27, 2002 . He was entrusted with this task until the appointment of the third bishop of Essen, Felix Genn .

Franz Grave has been an honorary member of the Catholic student union AV Cheruscia zu Münster in the CV since 2001 .

He was a member of the board of trustees of the non-profit Fasel Foundation in Duisburg from 2001 to 2018, and has been its chairman since the end of 2009.

On June 27, 2008 Pope Benedict XVI. Graves submitted a resignation for reasons of age. The auxiliary bishop celebrated on October 4th, 2008, the feast day of his namesake Francis of Assisi , a thanksgiving mass with the participation of all the bishops of Essen.
