Julius Angerhausen

Julius Angerhausen (born January 3, 1911 in Warendorf ; † August 22, 1990 in Essen ) was auxiliary bishop in Essen and a spiritual writer.

Life

His parents were the engineer Hans Angerhausen and Anna (née Darup). Julius Angerhausen attended the Laurentianum grammar school in Warendorf until he graduated from high school in 1930. On December 21, 1935, he was ordained a priest by Bishop Clemens August Graf von Galen in Münster .

In 1936 Angerhausen became chaplain in Duisburg-Meiderich , Herz-Jesu, and in 1941 chaplain in St. Ludger in Duisburg-Neudorf . In the war years 1942–1945 he served as a medic in the navy before he became diocesan pastor of the Christian Workers' Youth (CAJ) and district chaplain of the CAJ in Duisburg in 1948 . Four years later he performed the same tasks in Münster.

From 1953 to 1958 Angerhausen was the national chaplain of the CAJ and the CAJF in Essen . With the establishment of the Diocese of Essen in 1958, he was incardinated in it, since his official seat was in Essen . In the same year he was appointed clergyman and was commissioned by Bishop Franz Hengsbach to lead the establishment of the Episcopal Pastoral Office in Essen.

On January 27, 1959 he was by Pope John XXIII. Appointed titular bishop of Eminentiana and auxiliary bishop in Essen. The episcopal ordination took place on April 12, 1959 in Essen by Bishop Franz Hengsbach. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Münster, Michael Keller and Bishop Charles Msakila of Karema in Tanzania (a sign of Angerhausen's ties to Africa).

From 1961 he assumed the duties of diocesan director for the papal work for the spread of the faith , the papal mission work for children and the priestly mission work in the diocese of Essen and the Opus St. Petri . Towards the end of the Second Vatican Council , in which he took part, Angerhausen signed the Catacomb Pact on November 16, 1965 together with 39 other bishops , which was signed by Hélder Câmara , the then Archbishop of Olinda and others. Recife , Brazil and initiated by Charles-Marie Himmer , Bishop of Tournai / Belgium. The pact included a vow by the bishops to act with dedication and humility as servants of a "Church of the Poor" for those two-thirds of humanity who face poverty and misery.

In 1964, Auxiliary Bishop Angerhausen was relieved of the duties of the pastoral care office. In 1966 he was appointed episcopal vicar for the pastoral care of foreigners. From 1967 to 1975 he was chairman of the commission for world missions of the German Bishops' Conference .

Angerhausen retired on March 1, 1986 , but continued to work in the pastoral care of foreigners and missionary work.

After his death, Julius Angerhausen was buried in the chapter cemetery in Essen.
