St. Viktor (Birten)
The Catholic parish church of St. Viktor is a listed church building in Birten , a district of Xanten in the Wesel district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
History and architecture
The neo-Gothic , cross-shaped brick building with a stair tower in the choir corner and a western vestibule with sacristy was built from 1902 to 1905 according to plans by Caspar Clemens Pickel and rebuilt in modern forms after the blast in 1945.
Furnishing
- The candlestick crown with two six light arms is crowned with a Madonna figure . It was cast from Maasland brass at the end of the 15th century .
- The wooden sculptures of Saint Bernardine of Siena and Bonaventura date from around 1475/80 and are attributed to the workshop of Arnt Beeldesnider. The frame is from more recent times, the attributes have been renewed.
- A Lower Rhine figure of St. Helena from 1510, the version is from more recent times, the attribute has been lost.
- A saint Anthony around 1510 with remains of an older version.
- A pair of angels with the handkerchief of St. Veronica from the beginning of the 16th century. The face of Christ and wings were added.
- A figure of St. Maria Magdalena from the first quarter of the 16th century, she was later recast, the left hand and the ointment vessel were lost.
- A Mary of Victory from the 18th century with an old white and gold setting.
- In the tower hang four bells in the tones ges¹ as¹ b¹ and des². They were cast in 1963 by the company Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock in Gescher.
