The congregational church community was constituted in February 1902 with 29 members. The foundation stone of today's church, adjoining it to the south, was laid in 1907 and the church was opened in 1908.

After the merger of the Presbyterian Church of England ( Presbyterian Church of England) and the Congregational Church in England and Wales (Congregational Church in England and Wales) to the United Reformed Church (URC) was the Church in Roundhay 1972 URC. Since then it has been named St Andrew's Church after the Apostle Andreas .

architecture

The church was built in neo-Gothic style from gritstone , a very hard sandstone , the roof is made of red bricks . The architect was WH Beevers from Leeds. The church is oriented approximately in a north-south direction. The windows are ogival. The tall but slender tower is three-tiered. It has buttresses and a flat parapet topped with battlements. The nave with five bays has an open wooden roof and wood paneling. The east window illustrates the parable of the Good Samaritan and was donated in 1907.

The parish hall, the first church from 1901, was designed in the same style and is also a Listed Building .

Parish

The congregation of the United Reformed Church has a diverse range of services that corresponds to that of a parish church . Examples are the Messy Church with a program and meal for all age groups and the extensive program for children and young people.

International partnerships

The community has maintained a partnership with the Luther Church in Frankenthal (Palatinate) since October 1970, with regular encounters between adults and young people. In 1991 this was expanded to include the Frankenthal partner parish of Martinskirche in Bernburg (Saale) .
