St Joan of Arc ( St. Joan of Arc ) is a Roman Catholic chapel on the campus of Marquette University in Milwaukee in Wisconsin . The chapel provides a from France translocated building from the 15th century is.

history

The chapel was built around 1420 as the parish church of Chasse-sur-Rhône ( Département Isère ) and was consecrated to St. Martin of Tours . The church has not been in use since the outbreak of the French Revolution and was in a ruinous state at the beginning of the 20th century. The chapel was bought by Gertrude Hill Gavin and moved to her country house in Long Island in 1926 . She had the chapel consecrated to St. Joan of Arc and received in 1933 by Pope Pius XI. written permission that mass could be read in the chapel. After Gertrude Hill Gavin's death, the country house and chapel came to Marc Rojtman in 1962, who donated the chapel to Marquette University in 1964. The building was moved again and rebuilt on campus in 1965/66 and has been looked after by the Jesuits since then .
