The Stadio comunale di Bellinzona ( German  stadium of the municipality of Bellinzona ) is a football stadium with a running track in the Swiss municipality of Bellinzona in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino . history

On March 29, 1946, the city council decided to build the city stadium. The first game was played on December 1, 1946 between AC Bellinzona and Grasshopper Club Zurich (3-0). The facility was officially opened on May 27, 1947. At that time it offered space for 21,000 spectators. On May 24, 1950, the floodlight system was inaugurated with a friendly against AC Milan .

In October 2012, the AC Bellinzona presented plans for a new stadium, the Stadio Comunale no longer meets the requirements of the Swiss Football League. The venue was to have 12,000 seats and a lockable roof. The construction project also included a media center, a rehab center, a fitness studio, a hotel, two restaurants with a bar, conference rooms and a library. The costs should amount to 100 million Swiss francs (approx. 82.7 million euros ). After AC Bellinzona went bankrupt in 2013, the new building plans were superfluous.
