The Grbavica Stadium is a football stadium in the Grbavica district of the Bosnian-Herzegovinian capital Sarajevo . It has space for 16,100 spectators and is used as the home ground of the football club FK Željezničar Sarajevo . It is nicknamed Dolina čupova ( German Valley of the Cups ).
history
The Grbavica Stadium was built in 1953 and opened on September 13th of that year. The first game in the new stadium took place between the owner of the stadium, FK Željezničar Sarajevo , and NK Šibenik from today's Croatia . The game ended in a 4-1 win for the home team. The construction of the stadium was also financed by Željezničar Sarajevo, who wanted to use it as the club's own stadium. The club has been playing in Dolina cupova since its completion in 1953 . Željezničar Sarajevo has been Bosnian-Herzegovinian champion seven times . In addition, the championship in Yugoslavia was once achieved and the Bosnia and Herzegovina cup competition five times . Željezničar is currently playing in the first Bosnian-Herzegovinian league.
In 1968 the Grbavica Stadium was renovated for the first time. This work was completed eight years later and the stadium reopened on April 25, 1976. During the renovation, among other things, the safety in the stadium was improved, two training fields were built and new changing rooms were set up. In the 1980s, the construction of new, modern seats on the north stand was planned. But before the plans could be implemented, the Bosnian War broke out. The Grbavica stadium stood exactly between the pro-Serb and pro-Bosnian camps during these clashes, and suffered great damage. In 1996, gaming operations could be resumed here. In the years that followed, some small repairs were carried out on the Grbavica stadium, while major modernization work took place in 2004.
modification
In 2012 the idea of a new football stadium in Sarajevo was born. After discussions, plans for the conversion were presented in June 2013. The new stadium is to have four covered stands. The relatively new one-story north tier will be integrated into the new stadium. The three new grandstands will be two-story. The facade is clad with rectangular blue surfaces. The space should amount to around 20,000 places. The costs should amount to around BAM 20 to 30 million ( € 10.2 to 15.3 million ). The tender for bids for the new building runs until April 10, 2016. The demolition of the east stand is planned for the end of April this year.
