The stadium at Wilschenbruch was a football stadium with 6,000 seats in the Wilschenbruch district of the Hanseatic city of Lüneburg in Lower Saxony . It was one of the oldest German football stadiums. From 1905 it was used by the Lüneburger SK and Lüneburger SK Hansa football clubs.

history

Before the club moved to Wilschenbruch, the team competed as the Lüneburg Football Club (LFK) on the parade ground (sports field) in front of the Lüner barracks and the Schützenplatz. On February 16, 1905, the Lüneburg clubs were withdrawn from using the square to protect the lawn. A new home was found on April 22, 1905 with the sports field in Wilschenbrook. The lease with the innkeeper Heinrich Sander ran retrospectively from October 1, 1904 for one year and the lease was 24 marks per year. Four days later the mayor H. Wolter of the Wilschenbrook estate administration approved the lease. The inauguration of the area with the name LFK-Sportplatz (Wilschenbrook) took place on August 20, 1905 with an athletics event. The preparation of the square costs the association 300 marks. The home side of the LFK played their first soccer game against SC Sperber Hamburg on September 3, 1905. Two weeks later, the LFK started the league game in Wilschenbruch.

In the 1951/52 season the games of the former league club against Hamburger SV , Werder Bremen , Hannover 96 , FC St. Pauli and others took place here. Several Bundesliga clubs were guests at Wilschenbruch . On August 19, 1992, Lüneburger SK and Karlsruher SC (0: 3) met in the first round of the 1992/93 DFB Cup . In 2004 a Lüneburg selection played against FC Schalke 04 in front of 2,500 spectators. At the game of the first main round of the DFB Cup 2008/09 on August 10, 2008 against the then reigning German soccer champions VfB Stuttgart (0: 5) 8,000 spectators entered the stadium.

The Lüneburger SK had to file for bankruptcy after the 2000/01 Regional League season . The stadium went into the bankruptcy estate . The insolvency proceedings were brought to an end in 2013. The stadium area was turned into building land and the proceeds were used to serve the creditors . The club had to vacate the site by March 31, 2014, in the middle of the season. On March 23, 2014, the LSK Hansa played for the last time in their 110-year-old venue. The match against SV Drochtersen / Assel ended in a 1-1 draw in front of around 1,600 visitors. After the demolition, a housing estate will be built on the site.
