The Ion Oblemenco Stadium ( Romanian Stadionul Ion Oblemenco ) was a football stadium with an athletics facility in the Romanian city of Craiova . It was the home of the football clubs FC Universitatea Craiova and CS Universitatea Craiova .
The facility was built in 1967 as Stadionul Central ( Central Stadium ). It had a capacity of 27,915 spectators. There was only seating. In 1996 the name was changed from the city of Craiova in honor of Ion Oblemenco , a late former player from Universitatea Craiova. In 2002 the wooden benches were replaced by plastic seats. In 2008 the athletics facility was renewed. The plant was closed at the end of 2014 and demolition began on May 11, 2015. The old stadium made way for the new Ion Oblemenco stadium with over 30,000 seats.
