Stadler HGm 2/2
The Stadler HGm 2/2 is a two-axle diesel - electric rack- and - pinion locomotive , which was built in the same basic design by Stadler Rail for railways in Switzerland , Spain and Austria .
history
The Railways of the Region of Catalonia (FGC) also operate a rack railway in the Pyrenees, which was operated from the start with locomotives that were built or at least designed in Switzerland. A cogwheel diesel locomotive, which was ordered from Stadler together with a snow blower, was used to clear snow and to help out with winter sports. Before delivery, it was put into operation and tested on the Brig-Visp-Zermatt-Bahn (BVZ). This ultimately led to BVZ ordering a similar but more powerful locomotive for its own needs and for construction service trips to the Gornergrat . After that, the FGC also ordered another locomotive, as they put a second rack railway, the rebuilt Montserrat Railway, into operation in 2003. The SBB also ordered the same locomotive for the Brünigbahn , which, however, has already been delivered to the Zentralbahn (ZB). ZB and Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn (MGB, successor to BVZ) each ordered an additional locomotive and the Lower Austrian Schneebergbahn also ordered two locomotives, but these did not have an adhesion drive . She rented a locomotive long-term to the Schafbergbahn , where four new SLM steam locomotives carry the main load of the operation.

The Zentralbahn ordered a third locomotive shortly after delivery, but this one without a gear drive. The locomotive with the designation Gm 105 001 was delivered in 2011. It has the same performance and service weight as the HGm, but its top speed is 80 km / h.
