The ABDeh 8/8 were gear - EMUs of Brig-Visp-Zermatt-Bahn (BVZ) and the successor Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn (MGB).
The double railcars are a further development of the articulated railcars ABDeh 6/6 , which went into operation in 1960 and which were ordered at the end of the 1950s due to increased traffic and were able to transport a train weight of 132 t. Thanks to the fourth motor bogie, the ABDeh 8/8 could even transport a train weight of 175 t. They also differ from their predecessors in terms of their structure: the two closely coupled car bodies sit on two bogies each, on the two outer bogies with two side supports each and on the two inside bogies with two center supports each. With the ABDeh 8/8, as with the ABDeh 6/6, there is a luggage compartment on the Zermatt side and a 1st class compartment on the Brig side, but then the entry platform follows in the middle, followed by the toilet and the equipment room . As with the predecessors, the two second-class compartments are in the middle. They also have a cardan shaft and angled axle drive . However, the transformer is no longer above the boarding platform, but under the floor of the car.
In 1980 the aging rubber suspensions, which were responsible for frequent derailments , were replaced by new Flexicoil suspensions .
The Stadler multiple units BDSeh 4/8 and Komet , which were delivered from 2002 to 2014, allowed the three double multiple units to be withdrawn gradually. In 2008 the first vehicle was broken off with the 2043, in 2011 the 2041 suffered the same fate, in 2014 the 2042 was taken out of service and parked.
It was once considered that the MGBahn-Historic association would receive the double multiple unit no. 2042, but the still young association refrained from this, as this unfortunately defective double multiple unit would have required a million sum, which is still in the "starting blocks" for the one "stuck club would have represented a big chunk. In addition, you have to see that compared to the other vehicles of the association, this double multiple unit would have been very young and, for example, much less known than the HGe 4/4 "balcony locomotives (ex.FO)" and "crocodiles (ex.BVZ)" would have been.
For these reasons, the last BVZ double multiple unit was unfortunately sent for disposal in October 2017.
