The Deh 4/4 I is a narrow-gauge luggage railcar series of the former Furka-Oberalp-Bahn (FO), today Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn (MGB), for adhesion and cogwheel operation . The series includes five vehicles (numbers 51 to 55). Four mechanically similar but electrically different vehicles were procured as Deh 4/4 21-24 from the Brig-Visp-Zermatt-Bahn (BVZ) and are now also part of the MGB.
history
Since the rolling stock was largely out of date in the 1960s and traffic had risen sharply in the winter season, the FO urgently needed more powerful locomotives. A decision was made in favor of high-performance luggage railcars that could freely be used on the entire network. The five Deh 4/4 vehicles were ordered in 1972 and replaced the HGe 2/2 and ABDeh 2/4 , which could no longer handle winter sports traffic on the Schöllenenbahn . In parallel to the railcars, four control cars and eight matching passenger coaches were procured, with which four three-part shuttle trains could be formed. In 1977, an additional fifth shuttle train was put together from existing vehicles.
A replica of the FO-Deh 4/4 received a completely different box, which is why these vehicles were differentiated as Deh 4/4 I and II at the FO. This designation has not been used since the merger to form the MGB; the MGB differentiates the series according to the number ranges 21, 51 and 91.
technology
To save weight, the car body is made of light metal. The equipment cabinets with the electronic and pneumatic equipment are located in the luggage compartment in the middle. The transformer is located under the car body, the bogies each have two motors.
