The Göttingen City Archive is the municipal archive of the city of Göttingen in Lower Saxony . It stores holdings on the history of the city of Göttingen for urban history , local history or genealogical research. It is also responsible for the storage of historically valuable documents from the Göttingen city administration.
location
The city archive has been located in Weender Strasse at the old location of the former Emil Mehle factory since 2020 . Before - from 1981 - it was housed in the "New Town Hall" in Göttingen and until 1898 in the Old Town Hall .
management
From 1974 to 1996 the archivist and historian Helga-Maria Kühn was director of the Göttingen City Archives. Subsequently - until the beginning of 2020 - the archivist and historian Ernst Böhme was head of the city archive and the city museum in Göttingen . Kristin Kalisch has been the director since the beginning of 2020.
