Helga-Maria Kühn

Helga-Maria Kühn (* 1933 in Saxony ) is a German archivist and historian .

Life

Helga-Maria Kühn was born in Saxony . After graduating from school, she studied history at the University of Leipzig during the GDR . She then completed an apprenticeship as an archivist in Potsdam . In 1961, the year the Berlin Wall was built , she fled the GDR to the West.

Also in the early 1960s studied Kühn at the Georg-August University of Göttingen , where she in 1964 about the confiscation of religious material in the Albertine Saxony 1539-1553 doctorate .

After Kühn was director of the regional church archive in Hamburg until 1973 , she was director of the Göttingen city archive from 1974 to 1996 .

Helga Maria-Kühn wrote numerous specialist publications, including on the history of the city of Göttingen. With Frauke Geyken , Günther Beer, the archivist and museum director Ernst Böhme , Arne Butt, the geographer Dietrich Denecke and the historian Dieter Neitzert, she is on the editorial board of the journal Göttinger Jahrbuch published by the history association for Göttingen and the surrounding area .
