The Protestant town church (also: St. Anna ) is a Gothic hall church in Wolfhagen in the Kassel district in Hesse . It belongs to the Evangelical Church Community Wolfhagen in the Evangelical Church District Hofgeismar-Wolfhagen of the Evangelical Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck .

History and architecture

Of a first predecessor church, consecrated in 1235, only the triumphal arch with bead fighters remained . The nave was built in the fourth quarter of the 13th century under the influence of the Marburg Elisabethkirche , the monastery church Haina and the church in Volkmarsen . The west tower dates from the first half of the 14th century, the ground floor is marked with the year 1303. The two-storey Marienkapelle on the north side of the choir was completed in 1389 (date of the altar consecration). The choir was rebuilt at the beginning of the 15th century and completed around 1420. The spire was put on in 1581. The interior was restored in 1957/1958. Thereafter, the church was renovated from 2009 to 2011 inside. On December 20, 2011, the congregation put the church back into use in the presence of Bishop Martin Hein. In autumn 2017 the rose window was renewed based on a design by Günter Grohs . The window was badly damaged when the munitions plant was blown up at the end of the Second World War in 1945 and was replaced by a temporary solution. The choir windows from 1961 were designed by Hans Gottfried von Stockhausen with the motifs of fish haulage, Last Supper and Pentecost.

The building is a stately, broadly proportioned hall church with three bays, the side aisles of which are half as wide as the central nave. The choir consists of two yokes with five-eighths . The sturdy west tower has a tapered upper floor and is crowned by a squat, slated pointed helmet with twelve dwelling houses . On the south side of the nave there is a portal with a three-pas tympanum and a circlet in a simplified manner based on the portal of the church in Volkmarsen. A large window with a rose window is arranged above the north portal.

The interior is dominated by round pillars with four rectangular templates for belt and divider arches, which have ribbed vaults in the central nave and groined vaults in the side aisles. The leaf capitals are finely crafted; Also remarkable are the figured keystones from the end of the 13th century, which together make up a representation of the Last Judgment . The choir is closed with ribbed vaults over wall services.

A late Gothic sacrament niche with side consoles intended for figures missing today was created around 1420.

Furnishing

Several grave monuments have been preserved on the west wall of the nave and in the tower hall.

The organ prospectus was created in 1725 by Johann Friedrich Sterzing. Today's organ is a work by Karl Lötzerich from 1981 with 27 registers on two manuals and a pedal , which was built using older material.
