administration

In 1857 the city administration decided to build a city gas plant. This went into operation in 1858, and HP Stephenson was the tenant. On August 1, 1860, the municipality of Ludwigsburg took over the operation of its gas works on its own account and founded the municipal works; at that time the gas was only used for lighting. In 1862 the first "administrative norms", the forerunners of today's articles of association, were drawn up. The SWLB has been supplying water since 1866. Stadtwerke Ludwigsburg is one of the founding members of the state water supply created in 1912 . In 1916 the city was connected to the LW network. Since 1958, the city has also been getting drinking water from the Lake Constance water supply . Since 1858 gas has been produced on site for 105 years - in 1963 the municipal utilities shut down their gas production facilities. From now on, the gas will be obtained by pipeline. In 1971 the municipal company was converted into a GmbH.

Shortly before the turn of the millennium, the company entered the leisure and health care sector: the city of Ludwigsburg transferred its pools and the artificial ice rink to the municipal utilities. Together with the Bietigheim-Bissingen public utilities, the SWLB founded the PEW in Pattonville, a former US troop base, in 2001. In 2006 the Stadtwerke Ludwigsburg-Kornwestheim went under the electricity suppliers and entered the electricity business, in 2007 the SWLB took over the gas supply of the Schillerstadt Marbach. In 2008 the SWLB merged with the neighboring municipal utilities in Kornwestheim. In 2009, what was then the largest and most modern wood-fired thermal power station in Baden-Württemberg went on the heating and power grid. In 2013 the municipal utilities received the power license from the cities of Ludwigsburg and Kornwestheim .

Electricity mix

The SWLB's electricity is currently 51.8% from fossil sources, 28.2% from renewable sources and 20% from nuclear power (as of 2012). The SWLB also offers climate-friendly electricity under the name of Favoritstrom klimaplus , which comes from 100% renewable energy sources: 80% from Swiss hydropower and 20% from particularly energy-efficient combined heat and power plants (CHP) on site in Ludwigsburg.
