Stanislaw Has

Stanisław Has (born March 27, 1914 in Krakow , † May 20, 1997 in Lublin ) was a Polish conductor and composer.

Has initially had private music lessons and studied music theory from 1935 to 1939 at the Conservatory of the Krakow Music Society. At the same time he studied law at the Jagiellonian University from 1937 until the outbreak of the Second World War . During the time of the German occupation he took private composition lessons from Feliks Nowowiejski and Zdzisław Jachimecki . From 1945 he continued his education at the State Music Academy in Cracow. From 1947 to 1952 he studied conducting first with Walerian Bierdiajew , later with Artur Malawski , with whom he also took composition lessons between 1951 and 1955. His law degree at Jagiellonian University ended in 1945 with a master's degree.

Has directed a chamber ensemble between 1937 and 1939. From 1946 to 1950 he was the conductor of the Cracow Academic Choir, from 1950 conductor of the Polish Radio Orchestra Cracow. 1961–62 he was also the artistic director of the Kraków Municipal Music Theater. He was awarded the medal for the 10th anniversary of the People's Republic of Poland (1955), an Honored Cultural Activist (1968), the Golden Cross of Merit of the Republic of Poland (1968) and the First Degree Medal of Honor with Laurel from the Polish Choir and Orchestra Association (1975) .
