Stanisław Strawiński (* around 1736 , † after 1773 ) was a Polish nobleman and patriot, as well as a participant in the Confederation of Bar .

Life

Stanisław Strawiński, son of Franciszek Tadeusz Strawiński, grandson of Leon Bazyli Strawiński (* 1699; † 1736), sword bearer of Troki and heir to Trzeciakiszki in Lithuania and Katarzyna Woydziewicz, belonged to the Strawiński family with the Sulima coat of arms , which probably originated in at Troki in Lithuania, where relatives are documented from the middle of the 17th century. He was (titular) cavalry captain of the Stare Duby district in the former Smoleńsk Voivodeship , which finally came to Russia in 1654 . In his mid-thirties he joined the Confederation of Bar and was the organizer and commander of the brief and almost bloodless kidnapping of the Polish King Stanisław August Poniatowski on the night of November 3rd to 4th, 1771 in Warsaw by insurgents.

For this act he was stripped of the nobility in absentia. Also in his absence, he was put to death a.o. with Kazimierz Pułaski and two other patriotic officers. a. by dividing them into four and castrating the male children as far as there should be, so that the sex of the potential "regicide" dies out. He was able to evade enforcement in the long term.

His escape took him to Lithuania, where he disappeared. According to unconfirmed legend, he then either went to Rome and became a priest or married an Ewa Zaborska in Lithuania. Occasionally he is mentioned as the great-grandfather of Igor Stravinsky , but this is not mentioned in the very detailed article in the Polski Słownik Biograficzny about him. Apart from the fact that it was confused with another Stanisław Strawiński, this is also questionable as the composer's great-grandfather.
