Stanislaw Zając

Stanisław Zając (born May 1, 1949 in Święcany in the Subcarpathian Voivodeship ; † April 10, 2010 in Smolensk , Russia ) was a Polish politician, lawyer, and from 1991 to 1993, 1997 to 2001 and 2005 to 2008 a member of the Polish Parliament, the Sejm . From 2008 he was a senator.

Life

He graduated from the Jagiellonian University in Krakow with a law degree . He held a post as a judge and then practiced as a lawyer.

Since the beginning of the nineties he belonged to the party " Christian National Association " ( Zjednoczenie Chrześcijańsko-Narodowe ). He was chairman of this party from 2000–2002. From 1991 to 1993 he was a member of the Catholic electoral alliance Wyborcza Akcja Katolicka . From 1997 to 2001 he was a member of the Akcja Wyborcza Solidarność electoral alliance . During that time he was Deputy Sejm Marshal. In 2001 he was on the electoral roll of the Akcja Wyborcza Solidarność Prawicy (AWSP) electoral alliance . He sought re-election without success. From 2002 to 2005 he had a seat in the Parliament ( Sejm ) of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship .

In 2005 he was on the electoral list of the Law and Justice Party ( Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (PiS) ) and was elected as a member of the Krosno constituency. In the Polish parliamentary elections in 2007, he won a seat in the Polish Sejm for the fourth time , where he received 32,962 votes. On June 22, 2008, as a candidate for the PiS, he won the by-elections for the Senate, which were announced in the Krosno constituency after the death of Andrzej Tadeusz Mazurkiewicz , and received 40,993 votes (47.92%). He made the vow on June 25, 2008.

On April 10, 2010, Zając was part of a Polish delegation headed by President Lech Kaczyński , who was to travel to the memorial in Russia on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre . However, in a plane crash of the delegation near the Smolensk-Nord military airfield , he was killed along with other high-ranking representatives of Poland.

Posthumously on April 16, 2010, he was awarded the Commander's Cross with Star of the Order Polonia Restituta (Krzyż Komandorski z Gwiazdą Orderu Odrodzenia Polski) .
