The Stanley Ghyll Beck is a watercourse in the Lake District , Cumbria , England . The Stanley Ghyll Beck arises as the confluence of Arminghow Gill and Smallstone Beck as Birker Beck in Eskdale south of Birkerfoot. It flows north to its confluence with the River Esk .

The Stanley Ghyll is a Site of Special Scientific Interest . The area is 8.2 hectares . The watercourse falls over the Stanley Force waterfall at 54 ° 23 ′ 4 ″  N , 3 ° 16 ′ 23 ″  E , where it changes its name. The area surrounding the waterfall and the adjoining watercourse is forested and the shady and humid environment is ideal for a variety of lichens and mosses .
