The Stark Verlag GmbH (spelling outside the imprint: STARK Verlag) is a German publisher that specializes in learning aids for students as well as teaching materials and concepts for teachers. He currently employs around 150 people in Munich (50 of whom are specialist editors) and around 800 part-time authors.

history

The publishing house was founded in 1976 by the high school teacher Hannes Stark in Freising near Munich . Monika Stark , the then wife of Hannes Starks, was the publisher's managing director until 1988. The name was therefore in the early years "Verlag M. Stark GmbH". On January 1, 2007, Stark withdrew from the company and handed over the management to Detlev Lux.

On November 1, 2008, Stark-Verlag took over the Cologne-based Aulis Verlag Deubner GmbH & Co. KG, which primarily publishes educational specialist magazines and materials for teaching preparation, and continues to operate it, which is now a legally dependent brand. From February 2009 to March 2012, the publisher operated "LehrerDialog.de", a social network for teachers on the Internet .

On December 1, 2010, Stark-Verlag took over the “Career Strategy” program segment from Eichborn Verlag, and for the first time is also offering the right books beyond school graduation.

The publishing house has belonged to the Pearson media group since the beginning of August 2011 .

At the end of January 2017, Klett Verlag took over the teacher information business from Stark Verlag in order to concentrate on learning aids for students. For this purpose, Klett wants to acquire substantial shares of the property from Stark, which has been registered with the Federal Cartel Office.

Portfolio

The publisher was best known for its state-specific preparatory volumes for the Abitur and final exams, the "red series". The company is the market leader in Germany in this area.

In addition, Stark-Verlag publishes the “white series”, which includes learning aids for students in all types of schools and grades.

The guides and CD-ROMs from the “Profession and Career” program segment - on training, study and career choices as well as on the topics of application, career, rhetoric and numerous test training procedures - are thematically linked to the publisher's school portfolio.

The teaching materials and concepts for teachers are only available through direct sales . You are now (2017) also at the Dr. Josef Raabe Verlags-GmbH sold.

The company sells over 2 million books annually.
